We are more than halfway through 2021, but the difficulties of 2020 continue.

Aug 4, 2021

While many organizations and companies enjoy the slow return to normalcy, our concern for vulnerable individuals across East Tennessee is deepening. Our nation’s fight against COVID-19 came at the expense of managing HIV & AIDS. Testing, funding, research, and staff capacity at laboratories and medical centers was sharply diverted. According to Dr. Carlos del Rio, a professor of medicine at Emory University, “This is a major derailing. There will be damage. The question is, how much?

Nowhere in the U.S. is more at-risk for an HIV/AIDS outbreak than the South. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the South currently accounts for “51% of new infections, 8 of the 10 states with the highest rates of new diagnoses, and half of all HIV/AIDS deaths.” We are the epicenter of America’s HIV crisis.
We must act now to close the healthcare gap left by COVID-19. Each week that passes poses a greater threat, and potential for more unnecessary loss of life.
Over the last two years, Positively Living & Choice Health Network has grown into East Tennessee’s premier public health nonprofit. We know that our holistic ‘treatment team’ approach to healthcare works. We are reaching more individuals across the state than ever before, and many are receiving HIV medications within 48 hours of their initial diagnosis. Within 4-6 weeks, 94% of our HIV+ patients achieve viral suppression, meaning the virus is undetectable in the bloodstream and can no longer be transmitted to others.

Please make a gift in support of our work today. Our community does not need to continue to suffer. HIV/AIDS is preventable. Help us divert a second crisis. Together – in spite of the effects of COVID-19 – we can take a stand and stop the spread.
